I'm a .270 fan myself. But then again it's not the best bush round...

.270 is my favorite cartridge. In reality there is no good bush gun, they all ricochet. I once shot a .300 wm at a deer thru 4' of slash and it did not get thru.

i also am a huge fan of the 270 but the ? was what is the best all around and the 06 comes in alot more sizes than the 270 and would be more suitable for moose than a 270 but i hunt my 270 because i like it and yes my 270 will kill moose the 06 just has more of what it takes

I like 30 cal. and 35 cal.so this year I will be hunting deer with a 325 short mag.but theres a place for every cal. depends on what your hunting.

Yes the question was what is the best all around cartridge. I guess we are all supposed to say 30-06! To me that is not the best all around cartridge the .270 is and that is my answer and I will stick with it. I have lost 3 deer in my time shooting a 30-06 and never lost one with a .270. That is why I prefer a .270 over anything else. Each person has their own favorite ad .270 is mine.

well rogo if you put it that way i have never lost 1 with the 30-06 because i wont leave my 270 at home long enough to hunt the 30-06 i just thought with the different bullet weights it would be more versatile

scott you should never call a 270 a ford i would rather carry my chevy than drive a ford

Im kind of in the same boat as Dody..i have a mdl 70 in 06 that i havent used in years..i hunt with a m77 Ruger 7x57 or a #3 in 45-70, but id still argue the 06 is the most versatile overall, both because of the vast amount of loads available and the number of rifles chambered in it over the years.
Im kind of surprised no one argued the 22lr, though.

Im with scott.. i think it does depends where youre hunting..in thick stuff i use a 12 gauge slug and more open areas and fields i use a 270. But i am looking for a 30-06 pump.

when I first started hunting we all thought a 30-30 was all you needed then as we got older it was 30-06, 308, or a 270 all calibers which i feel are quite similar now with shots out to 500 yards in Alburgh I have to go with a 7mm mag . This should cause a bunch of comments

I think the best caliber is the one you feel most confident with.
