Best All-Around Caliber?

Growing up it was the 30-06 because that was just what it was and what was handed down to me. Several of my friends were buying 270 so when I was ready to buy a new rifle, I went with the REM280. All the power of 30-06 and flat shooting like the 270

But like Scott said, it's really what ever your are comfortable and confident in shooting.
