After shooting a dandy buck on our family farm last year and sharing the experience with my father having a "big" buck show up on camera the week before rifle season was a big deal. I made mock scrapes in the area we got the pics of him in hopes to keep him around for dear ole' Dad to have a chance at him. With my bow stand slightly repositioned the hunt was on.
This is a pic we got of him two weeks before rifle season.
I moved a camera and set up another blind the night before the season, checked the cam on the first night and I got him again, same area, he's sticking around.
My father sat in this stand morning to night every day of the season. Thursday night three small doe came out into the field, the first deer he had seen from the stand. A few road hunters thought it was ok to drive through the field with hopes of shooting one of these fawns and proceeded to spook them out of them field, to make a long story short, both my father and I asked them to leave and to never come back.
This brings us to Friday morning, I woke up a little earlier than normal to start the truck and saw that there were ten doe and fawn in my garden. I told my father who was back in the same stand and thought maybe he should hunt this side of the farm tonight. Thank god he didn't. 4pm on Friday afternoon I was pulling some ribbons a trespasser had used to mark his way in to our property when I heard a muffled shot. Decided that I better head to the truck and see whats up. As soon as I hit the main road my phone rang and my father had informed me "I got em". Buck came out at 4 with three fawns, go figure, guess the does aren't ready in my area yet. Buck weighed in at 170lbs. Beautiful 8-pointer scored in at 114".
