Fished all day Saturday from 9 until 7:30 in my canoe up to the ditch in Keelers. Caught well over 40 bluegills & sunnies, most were on the small side between 6-7", 2 LM in the 3-1/2# range, 2 crappies, both on the small side around 8-1/2", 1small dinky yellow, 1 really nice sized pout in the 2# range and 1 very large bowfin well over 30". Landed everything except the 'fin...note to self...remember the net... Was a stiff wind early in the day and was a hard paddle over from the boat launch, but let me tell ya, what an awesome paddle back! Flat as glass and really nice sunset. Sorry no pics. Wish I had landed that bowfin, it would have been a master angle entry for sure! Still trying to find those nice slab crappies that are eluding me.

I did. bit off about 1/4" of the head and used them on small jigheads. several colors worked, most were chartruese or orange, but they liked the black/white ones with the red flakes. The majority of the fish really hammered a light green tube jig. Minnows everywhere! the water was boiling with them at times. Panfish were having a feed frenzy, but once the wind died down and the clouds showed up the bite started to turn off. That bowfin was really nice, had it on a small jig head hooked right in the upper lip hard. Was using bright green jig tipped with minnow whan it hammered it as soon as it hit the water. I was amazed that my 6# test just didn't snap, but the drag performed well and I played it a long time. It spooled me twice and it's too bad I didn't decide to get a pic of it in the water, but I had my phone in a waterproof place in the canoe that's hard to get out one-handed, so I tried to land it and after about 5 minutes of playing it I tried to get my fingers up behind it's gill plate when it snapped the line. It was at least 32"+, probably closer to 36" Lost a nice LM on a brown & orange LFT tipped with crawler. That one I was sight fishing for and I think it ran in the 4# range like the other 2 I landed that day. I wish I could get into the crappie, I'll keep trying...

Oh yeah, I had numerous soft bites that bit the shad tail right off those LFT soft bodies! Burned thru at least 5 of them. Even with the tail missing still was able to catch a few seeds on them. Same with the Gulp grub tails, when they bit those tails off, they kept hammering them anyway. Hoping to get out this evening after work.

As much as I hate fishing in the wind it does make a difference! What were you fishing for a hook with the LFT plastics? My last trips out I was fishing Bentley's in a 3 or 4 (size 10 or 12) and I was getting striped a lot. When I switched to a 1/16 leadhead my baits held up much much better even when I didn't bite off part of the head. How did you like the garlic taste? haha

Dylan, the garlic taste was a surprise I also switched to smaller jig heads with 1/8 or smaller and #8 hooks, it made a difference. That's why I was so shocked that large bowfin didn't just snap the line or bend the hook. I had it right in the upper lip away from the teeth and that little hook never bent!

Some hooks work very well. The Bentley's I fish either last until I lose them or snap off at the base of the jig first fish. It sucks they do that being so expensive...
