OK I’ve got a question for guys out targeting pan fish. There are several baits that people use like spikes, mousies, meal worms, waxworms, drillies, gulp maggots, plastic nuggies tails and Tommy cods/pin shiners. I’ve personal have had the most success with spikes (2 red and 1 white or yellow), Tommy cod/pins and plastics in that order.
This year in the Winni derby, I slammed the crappie using pins on my jigs. I wish I had the Tommy cods because to crappie, I think they are like M&M’s or a Snickers bar to us. But I can only get them on at a seacoast bait shop because they trap them in the brackish water and I did not make the road trip this year.
My question is, what’s your favorite "go to" or "must have" jig topper or jig appetizer when out jigging for crappie, gills and perch?

Many of us on here have had a lot of success with Maki Plastics. Fishound designed a bait called the Jamei that works really well on champlain, red and white seem to be the colors this season. I also have a preference on what i tip with depending on what style of jig i'm using. When I fish horizontal I usually run plastics with not tip unless the fish are being real picky. If i'm fishing with my go to teardrop jig trying to pull buckets i'm using 3-4 colored spikes. Hope this is helpful.

Usually just use spikes but have expanded to plastics this year with good results. I haven't purchased any of the maki's ....yet, but have been using the micro atomic fry made by berkly. Their sort of shaped like a mousie . Pink has been the most productive color so far.

my favorite combo has been pink jamie's and a spike or 2 would like to buy the plastic in bulk it is a little pricey as fast as they eat it up
