I took my nephew out with me who is 11. He has never really seen deer in the woods and just got his hunting license in October. The deal was if we saw a buck he would shoot it and if there was a doe I would since I had a doe permit. Couldn't get Any more for F2 when I knew I would be able to take him.
I was seeing some does every morning, a Nice 8 pointer (that never presented a good shot) and passed up on four pointer so he could get bigger, during rifle season so I set up a blind in that spot on the Wed before the muzzleloader opener. I had taken my nephew out during the last day of rifle and knew I needed a blind because he moves way too much. Never really been in the woods.
We get out there and in the blind by 6 am on Saturday and get ready for some action. First action was two hunters walking down the old logging road too us @ 6:45 am. Then another guy @ 7:00am from the other direction. Who see the blind and walks onto the posted property that I and only 2 others have permission to hunt and where the deer come from every morning. I didn't want to ruin the hunt so I figured it would be better to look for that guy later and give him the boot. (Never saw anybody during bow or rifle) Then @ 7:05 I see a deer standing on the log road ans raise my gun while pointing the deer out to my nephew. The deer ran across the road with two others ( all does ) I couldn't get a clear shot. Then 10-15 minutes later my nephew said I see a big doe so I raised my guy and said if it's a doe I'm going to shoot it. It turned out to be a 1 pointer. It looked down the road took too steps then trotted across. Then a minute later he said he sees another deer. Gun still up from the one Pointer I put the scope on it and it's the 8 pointer I have been seeing. It was staring right @ us as my nephew was moving and pointer out the blind @ the deer. I said "don't move @ and when he starts walking get your gun up quick". Same as the 1 pointer it started to walk the half way across the road it started to take off. Bang I shot it before t got away. Nephew still had gun leaned against the blind. After I shot 6-7 deer take off that were right behind the 8 pointer. He was happy as could be. We saw 12 deer in the 1 hour of the season. Before that he had only see 2 deer in the woods. I didn't know that he could more excited than last year when I took him out turkey hunting & he watched me kill a Jake, But he was EXCITED!
