The weather will be nice so at least it will be a good day for a cruise. A few fish would just be a bonus. I've never actually caught a trout on opening day. Although last year, I caught some brookies behind the house the day before the opener.

The river from Thetford to Hanover is for the most part open, as is the white from Bethel to White River. Drews is still locked up but I don't know how the ice is. Thinking about heading south if I can finally get a new truck to get me there.

We had grand plans of fishing the river today but we found ice and couldn't resist. Neither my buddy or I had ever fished the first pond. There was 22" of ice. Probably 6" black. The second stop had slightly less ice but still solid. These were my keepers from the first stop.  Total take  |
