I guess I'm going out tomorrow for the first time is anyone catching any flat fish? I'm going to try mallettes bay and work north from there carry or Paquette's ill let you know how I do. The ice looks bad with all the snow and the melting that leaves wet spots in Carry, Dback and PQ. All those flatfish bays really got the snow and since they are sheltered they didn't blow off. Deep snow with some slush makes for a tough time. Sooner or later i have to try it but for now I;ll stick to the perch. I fished perch again south of the ILM causeway. Great ice, no snow and the perch were hitting with some good ones.

Fished Dillenbech today , not a lot of ice and fewer fish. As everywhere else, frozen slush, then a couple inches of hard ice underneath . Saw one crew fishing tipdowns, couple groups with tipups and a few people jigging . I was there 4 hrs and caught 4 perch.
Need to try something else tomorrow.

I just wanted to caution everyone particularly any new ice fishermen. I tried a few spots for flat fish the last couple of days along with some nearby perch places all in the North Hero passage area. The ice is dangerous in many places with packed and frozen snow on top with water underneath and a couple of inches of hard ice on the bottom. Close to shore the packed snow ice will hold you up but once you get out a little bit you will break through and you don’t know what you are really walking on. Once out there and if it turns warm or the sun comes out even the packed snow ice will give way close to shore. If you do go out on any of this ice a spud bar is needed for testing each step. A lot of that ice caught with some bad spots then was covered with snow making a very dangerous situation. Be careful everyone. Frank

any luck with the flats? i tried for them on friday at a couple of spots, with no luck, seems they have shut down or something? maybe its the snow on top. I agree with the ice situation, with the warmer temps coming the week ahead, its going to be getting dangerous pretty fast.

I only tried them today and drilled a couple of holes and decided it was too dangerous at least for me. I have been fishing perch with mixed results to the north on good ice but decided to try for flats today. I'll be back on perch in the morning since the ice is good..

We're moving the tournament to mallettes bay because of the ice conditions we want to have a safe event.
