I keep missing the crappies !! My problem is that I've always fished perch and have that "yank hard" mentallity when it comes to setting the hook. I do ok with sunnies but the crappies elude me. Right now I'm working with an HT Ice Blue with an additional spring bobber, it compensates a bit for my "yank hard" hookset but not enough. I normally fish from a portable shack so something in the 18 - 20 inch range would be best. I've tried a long rod in the shack and it just doesn't work.
Any suggestions ?

Don't yank just lift.my rod has a very lite tip and alot of back bone alot more than a Ice blue but I lift my rod to set the hook. I like the new Genz rod team true blue it would work well with a spring bobber.Dicks in williston has them but I think if you can learn to lift and not yank the rods you have will work well.Try lifting from the shoulder and lift the whole arm when you feel or see the bite.I hope this helps. Are you going to Dillon tomorrow?

Thanks for the tip, i'll try that "lift from the shoulder" thing.
No fishing for me till the weekend. Despite my gray hair, I'm still working a regular 40 hr job...so I only get to fish on the weekends. Though I've been known to take a few days off to get some fishing in.
