I want to upgrade from my canoe to a boat, looking for suggestions, ideas, comments. I normally fish smaller bays for bass, bluegill, crappie . I don't plan to venture out on the big lake. I mostly fish alone so something that I can launch by myself. I'm thinking 12 or 14 ft, under 10 hp motor, and a trailer of course.
Any suggestions, or things to avoid.
Thanks, gofish

I would go with a 14' and 25hp for safety you can still launch good and have plenty of room to move and for gear.

I have a 14' Smoker Craft with a 15hp Force on it. Had it 11 years now and this was the first time it had to go into the shop for repairs. Biggest body of water its been on was Moore Dam and it was no issue. I've fished rough water for inland ponds. I would get another if it was what I was looking for

Is Welded boat better/worse than Riveted boat, found two on Craigslist
14' Sylvan , Merc 9.9hp 4 stroke 14' Meyers Super Pro II , Merc 15hp (don't know if 2 or 4 stroke)
Checked Meyers website, their boats are welded, they say it makes for a stronger boat
Sylvan seems like a good boat too, they're riveted construction. Plan to look at both of them in next couple days.
Comments??

Rivets can leak welds can break if it's not leaking don't worry about it I have a sylvan and love it they tend to be wide and deep boats.

One more question, 2-Stroke or 4-Stroke ? One I'm looking at has 15Hp Mercury 2-Stroke, another has 9.9Hp Mercury 4-Stroke. Is there a good reason to buy one over the other ?? Effidiency, better for low speed trolling, whatever ....
Thanks for all the help

I bought a Lund 1600 fury with a 25 merc 4 stroke and trailer this year. Great boat for pan fishing or bass and takes the rough water real well. The boat goes better than 25 MPH gets up on plane immediately and is great on gas. It has a livewell and plenty of room for fishing with a side console. Nice boat for the $$.
