Hi guys, just wondering what your favorite bait for sunnies is in the summer? I just cant seem to find anything that works as well as a piece of worm.

Bobby Garland Baby Shad, white-pearl, baby Bass colors. Put em on a horizontal jig , under a bobber. I just started fishing them this spring, so far have caught sunnies, bluegill, shiner, perch, crappie, LMB, SMB, pickerel, pike, and a Rudd. Check D&B ice adventures daily blog for more on different colors.

Thanks for the link Dave! I like worms in general but you can't beat the durability of plastics. There are many options but here is one that works well for me... www.grizzlyjig.com/html/hot_crappie_stinger.htmlAlso, check out the basic crappie stinger. It's a long bait for its profile but slim enough so that gills and seeds can fit them in their mouths with little interference. You can find quite a few quality baits on the Grizzly Jig site. Their product prices seem to be lower than anywhere else and also offer a good shipping price and speedy delivery. If you do go with larger shad style baits (Lake Fork "Live" Baby Shad or Bobby Garland), I would suggest biting off a portion of the head as it makes the bait a shorter. Therefore, more easily inhaled. Let us know what you find!

When they are shallow I fish with 4 pound test, a glo bob bobber and a 1/32 oz chartreuse jig 2' down with a small piece of crawler. When I can see them I use a 9' pole with just the jig and crawler with no bobber. It always works for me.

When I was a kid we used to catch them all the time especially in the Winooski river or at the mouth while fishing for pout. I haven't caught one in years. I always hated to take them off the hook.

I've caught them before. Although never got many of them into the boat or on shore. They always started to roll too hard when I tried to jack them up.

I am still fishing with spikes... they stay on the hook a little longer than worms, and the fish love them.

I was thinking spikes would work well, nice and clean too. Is there any place that still sells them in the summer?

I believe Rays Seafood has them all year down on North St in Burlington. Good people.
