Tried Lake Iroquois this morning, figured there might be crappie in it somewhere.Wrong. I tried in the shallows, along the shore under the overhanging trees, along the reef marked with the DANGER buoy. Not a crappie to be found, just bass, sunnies and bluegill.

I know there were crappie in there last year. I haven't fished it but heard they were in there and a few people I know had some good catches. Not huge fish though. Monkton pond had them several years ago. I was fishing for sunnies on new 3" ice without any snow. I was a little deeper than I am used to for flat fish and after catching a dozen or so sunnies the jig stopped about halfway down. I tightened up and saw a flash through the ice. it was huge and I knew what I had by the look and feel. I iced it and it was just shy of 14". I made 7 other drops in succession and caught 7 monsters all about the same size. On the 8th drop I ripped it and that was it. I brought some friends back the next day and we did catch a few but couldn't really find them again. I haven't fished that pond since moving to the Islands.

Good to know they really are in that pond. I'll have to try it again someday.

Pretty much all the ponds in the area have them or at least had them.
