Put in the water around 5:30a to get a decent start to the morning and we were fishing by 6 or so.4 lines all spread off to the side with in line planers. About as soon as we start our first pass a guy in a tiller is steaming right toward us,coming up in our prop was so I start waving my arms and pointing at my boards. The guy sees them and slow down, pulls up beside us as much as he could to get a good look and then says,"sorry thought you was ma buddy". We were thinking, even if we were your buddy wouldn't be stoked about coming up on us like that.
Anyway,we keep on the troll..fished over some shallow water and had very short leads,I usually have at least 80 feet off the inside board and 150+ on the outside but today it was closer to 50 on all boards. Fished the weeds and Kyle suggested some short leads...
Picked through a bunch of smallies and northerns again, then about 8a we boated our first eye,a little 5 pounder.
Shortly after that we pulled onto shore and I released a brown trout that had been dragging since about 7a.
We picked up another eye closer to 9. Lost a big fish off the back of the boat,it broke off in a last effort run...I'd like to think it was a big eye but likely was a big northern. Never even got a look. Ok,it was a huge eye!
Here is the second fish.
All in all it was a fun morning trip. We boated 2 eyes which were our Target species and I consider that a success, I felt good to be driving the boat. Kyle got his PB eye and that was sweeeeet for me to be a part of. More to come.....
