Fished with Kristen and a new fishing buddy,James. We were targeting walleye. Went out Friday night and hit some of the spots from shore, places that were producing but wouldn't you have, the skunk was all Friday night.
Saturday we launched just above Long Point in North Hero. Trolled north then cut across and worked up along Hog Island. We stayed busy with lots of pike and smallies. We then headed south and ran along Gull Island, fired a few more pike. Fished back north along the Gull Island reef, long point shoal and over to Tabors then into Maquam picking up more smallies along the way. Coolest water we found was 65, perhaps a touch warm for eyes. We didn't mark any bait and the fish on the graph were few and far between.
Sunday we left from Isle La Motte. First troll was along the east shore line, same old story again..pike,smallies,perch. Water was cooler (63 degrees) over there and we finally started marking lots of bait and fish on the bottom. I was hoping to fire a rod and pull up some eyes but it didn't happen.
We pulled huskys, smithwicks, bombers, taildancers, and storms all wkend. Speed was between 1.1-1.7. Had fun, stayed busy with lots of fish just not the Target species. Maybe next year we will fish later in the afternoon and into the night but I know there is a day bite,I've seen it work using the same program we just couldn't make it happen!
we used in-line planer boards to get lines spread out. watching a flag drop and a board start falling back is pretty cool to see. all in all, boat ran great and we got one Hell of a Sun burn. I'll add a few pics in a sec..that's all I got.
