I got a pike on a Hot Pink teardrop today, spent 10 minutes getting him to the hole. Had his head in the hole three times but couldn't figure out a way to get him out onto the ice, he finally broke the line on the third trip into the hole. I'd estimate a 5lber, definitely to heavy to hoist out with the line . Maybe I need to start carrying a gaff.
I expect this is a common problem while fishing for Bluegills.
I landed a 17 inch bass a few weeks ago but I could 'lip' the bass, don't want to try that with a toothy critter.

grab behind the gills thay cant swim backwards so once you get them started they should come up.I landed a 18lb pike on 4lb it was 48" long and I pulled him in a 6"hole.

something i have seen done if you wear cheap gloves and the mouth is open stick it in his mouth and they will usually bite down and not let go so you can land it me and scott also help drag a 9# though a 4" whole using a scoop

Ah, very cool... put something in his mouth to bite on and drag 'em out. I did have my scoop with me but never would have thought of that.
thanks gofish
